Entourage trouper Kevin Dillon has been set to play the title character in National Lampoon's 301: The Legend of Awesomest Maximus Wallace Leonidas, according to Variety. Lampoon is financing the film.

Jason Burinescu wrote the script, and a director will be named shortly.

The movie will spoof the sword-and-sandal epics 300, Troy, Gladiator and Braveheart, and Dillon plays the bumbling Spartan general who fails upward in his quest for greatness.

Filming will begin by year's end.

National Lampoon's 301 is the fifth film headed for production by the reconstituted humor label. National Lampoon's Bagboy and National Lampoon's Ratko were recently completed and will be released theatrically through National Lampoon Distribution.
