Writer, director and comic book enthusiast Kevin Smith was one of the first people to see the new Batsuit in Batman Vs. Superman, claiming that he teared-up the moment his eyes hit the photo. Now that the costume has been revealed to the public, Smith feels he can share more details about the new look, specifically the colors and its direct inspiration.

The photo released last week showing Ben Affleck in his suit, standing next to the Batmobile is in black and white. While some have gone onto colorize the photo, Kevin Smith hints that they may have gotten it a tad bit wrong, with most people leaving out the yellow utility belt. Hearing people complain that the suit looks too much like the one seen in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, Kevin Smith had this to say (thanks to ComicBook.com)

"As you may remember, I saw a photo of the Batsuit many months ago, and many people asked online, 'Is that the picture you saw?' No, that is a very cool picture, but that is not the picture I saw. They put it on a fake rooftop, and they lit it up. But it was in color, and you could see every piece of detail. So I've seen some people online go, 'Why is this f***ing suit any different than the Christopher Nolan Batsuit, it's all one f***ing color.' It's like, 'Dude, that's a monochrome photo. You know what that means, one chrome."

Kevin Smith claims that the new suit worn by Ben Affleck is directly inspired by Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns comic book miniseries, specifically issue number 3. According to him, the suit we see in the released photo only paints a very small picture of what we'll eventually see on screens summer 2015.

"That's not a representation of what the suit looks like. So what the suit looks like, and I was always kind of keeping it quiet until they revealed it, but they've revealed it. And you can kind of see, and anybody that...you've seen some people take the picture and color it online. If you want to see what this f***ing suit looks like, you just go to Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, go to the third book, Hunt the Dark Knight...it's the exact f***ing outfit he's wearing. That's why I hugged that guy all those months ago."

Here's the original photo, the colorized photo and an image of the suit from Hunt the Dark Knight.

Kevin Smith also hinted that this may not be the only suit and Batmobile in the movie. Its unclear if he is purely speculating on this, or if he's seen more from the movie that he is not telling us about.

"I will put this to you. What if it's one of a few Batmobiles? What if that's one of a few outfits in the movie? I suspect that's the case."

Are you glad to know that a dash of yellow is being added to this dark blue and gray ensemble?
