Kevin Spacey has signed onto star in and executive produce the new pilot House of Cards, which David Fincher is directing for Media Rights Capital.

The show will be based on the 1990 British mini-series House of Cards, which centered on Francis Urquhart, the Chief Whip in the House of Parliament, who manipulates agendas to get his way. This new pilot will be set within the American political system.

The Ides of March playwriter/screenwriter Beau Willimon wrote the script and will executive produce the pilot along with Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti, David Fincher, Eric Roth, and Joshua Donen.

House of Cards marks the first TV directorial venture for David Fincher. Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti were executive producers on David Fincher's Oscar-nominated drama, The Social Network.

The pilot is currently being shopped to the networks.
