Kevin Spacey had his lawyers ask the judge if he can skip his sexual assault arraignment next month. The actor's representation did not provide a reason for the absence. Spacey has been under the radar since late last year when Anthony Rapp accused the actor of sexual misconduct in an incident that occurred when Rapp was 14-years old. Since then, several more men have come forward accusing Spacey of a wide range of misconduct that spans decades. The actor is now being charged with felony sexual assault in Massachusetts.
Kevin Spacey is set to be arraigned on January 7th, and if he gets his way, he won't have to appear in court. However, the prosecution is opposing the motion. The judge has yet to rule on the matter as of this writing. Cape and Islands Assistant District Attorney Michael Giardino says that the actor's appearance is required under Massachusetts state rules for criminal case procedure. It doesn't look like Spacey will be able to skip his arraignment, but he's still trying.
The actor is accused of groping and sexually assaulting an 18-year old man after getting him intoxicated in a restaurant. According to court documents, Kevin Spacey started a conversation with the young man, who lied about his age and said he was 23-years old, and then invited him to the table for drinks. When the young man asked for a picture with the actor, Spacey allegedly said that he'd have to come back to his house for that to happen. Spacey then allegedly bragged about the size of his genitals and started groping the man inside the restaurant.
The court documents continue to say that Kevin Spacey and the intoxicated man went outside to smoke cigarettes, which is when the actor reportedly unzipped the man's pants and assaulted him. The man says that he was frozen in fear and couldn't believe that it was happening at the time. There is reportedly video footage from inside the restaurant that the man sent to his girlfriend. According to Spacey's representation, the footage only shows a hand on another shirt and doesn't prove that anything happened. Court documents reveal that the man confided in his girlfriend and his sister after the 2016 incident.
Kevin Spacey is currently under investigation in Los Angeles and the UK. There's a good chance that the actor could be extradited to the UK since over 20 men came forward with a number of allegations against the actor. At this time, over 30 men have come forward to accuse Spacey of sexual misconduct since November 2017. The morning that felony charges were brought against Spacey, he made a bizarre video of himself as his House of Cards character Frank Underwood discussing his innocence. The video has received over 8 million views in less than a week. The latest Kevin Spacey news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
