The 2010 South by Southwest will kick off its film programming in a big, superhero way this year. The festival announced that Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass will be the opening film at the 2010 South by Southwest film line-up. The film portion of the festival starts on March 12 and runs through March 21.

The film, based off the comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita, stars Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz and is set for a theatrical release on April 16.

In addition to the opening film, the festival also announced the five films following Kick-Ass as well. Aaron Katz's Cold Weather, Sebastian Gutierrez's Elektra Luxx, which stars Carla Gugino, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Timothy Olyphant, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Malin Akerman, Tony Myers' documentary Hubble 3D, the rock documentary Lemmy about the legendary Motorhead singer and Saturday Night, a documentary directed by actor James Franco that takes us behind the scenes of Saturday Night Live will all follow Kick-Ass in the film program.
