According to Variety, Kiki's Delivery Service, a Japanese series of books that was made into a hit film by Oscar-winning animation director Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away), will be turned into an English-language film for Walt Disney Pictures.

Jeff Stockwell (The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) was tapped hired to write the new "Kiki" screenplay based on the books of Eiko Kadano . The first was published in English last year. Studio Ghibli's 1989 animated version featured the voice of Kirsten Dunst as Kiki.

The story follows 13-year-old witch Kiki who moves to the city with her talking cat Jiji where she gets a job in a bakery close to her home. Sadly, Kiki's powers are not totally worked out, and the adventures and mishaps she gets into show she still has a lot of learning to do.
