Now that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally in theaters, it's time to talk about that other highly anticipated sequel we can't wait for. Kindergarten Cop 2 is coming sometime in 2016. And to celebrate the original action comedy's 25th Anniversary, we have the first official photos featuring franchise newcomer Dolph Lundgren. These follow a couple of set images that we got to see earlier in the year. Here is the official synopsis.

"Kindergarten Cop grossed over $200 million worldwide and has been entertaining audiences of all ages. In this exciting reboot, we introduce a unique blend of humor and action to the next generation of viewers, as well as share a reimagined version of the story with longtime fans who have made this an enduring family favorite."

No official release date has been announced for this direct-to-video sequel, which is also tied into a TV series based on the original Kindergarten Cop, which was released in 1990. Arnold Schwarzenegger's Expendables co-star Dolph Lundgren takes the lead here, but the story is still very similar. A tough guy cop is forced to go undercover as a grade school teacher.

A vague outline of the plot surfaced online months ago, along with the first set photos, thanks to Manly Movies. The set-up has Dolph Lundgren in desperate search for a flash drive that has gone missing from the Federal Witness protection company. It's speculated that an unknown evil entity is out to find a witness and kill them off, and it's up to Dolph to save the day.

Dolph Lundgren isn't alone on this mission, and this is where it gets a little bit weird (and may make this a must-see). The movie is channeling The Lone Ranger by giving Dolph Lundgren an Indian sidekick named Sanjit. The pair team up to take down the bad guys, who are described as Albanians. The film will incorporate laughs and action at an equal pace, and like the first movie, it will play to a more kid friendly audience than some of Dolph Lundgren's more recent action outings.

Kindergarten Cop 2 comes from Universal's 1440 Entertainment division, which specializes in direct-to-video sequels and remakes. Their other works include Jarhead 3: The Siege, The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power, and Beethoven's Treasure Tail. Don Michael Paul is directing the action comedy from a script by David H. Steinberg. Bill Bellamy also stars.

Kindergarten Cop 2 isn't Dolph Lundgren's first foray into family entertainment. His third starring role in a movie was as He-Man in the 1987 Masters of the Universe, which is gearing up for its own remake. Since then, though, he has stuck pretty firmly to heavy action and R rated drama. Who knows, this sequel may open up a whole new audience for the Swedish actor, director, painter and martial artist. He is a certified genius, no joke, so he must know what he is doing. Take a look at the official first images from Kindergarten Cop 2.
