Djimon Hounsou is in talks to play a Merlin-esque mentor to King Arthur in Warner Bros.' upcoming medieval adventure Knights of the Round Table. Idris Elba was in talks to play this mentor named Bedivere back in July, but the actor was forced to bow out due to scheduling conflicts.

Our report from July described Bedivere as the right-hand man to Arthur's father, who becomes Arthur's mentor and teaches the young king how to lead an army. Charlie Hunnam has signed on to play Arthur, with Astrid Berges-Frisbey portraying Guinevere. We reported last week that Jude Law is in talks to play the villain, but his deal has not closed yet. That report also revealed the Bedivere role was the last major role to be cast.

We first reported on this project back in January, when Guy Ritchie came on board to direct. This will be the first in a proposed six-movie series that will tell King Arthur's story, which will be written by Joby Harold (Edge of Tomorrow). No production schedule was given, but Warner Bros. has issued a July 22, 2016 release date.

Djimon Hounsou is no stranger to the fantasy realm, starring Eragon and the upcoming Seventh Son. He most recently portrayed Korath the Pursuer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and he will next be seen in next year's Furious 7 and Tarzan.
