Just one month after star Tom Hiddleston and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts boarded Legendary's Skull Island, Flight screenwriter John Gatins has been hired to rewrite the script.

The project was first announced during Legendary Pictures' Comic Con panel, with Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Seventh Son) writing the initial script the script for this King Kong prequel that explores the creature's home island.

Here's how Legendary officially described the project in their official Comic Con announcement.

"Previous works have touched on the island, but staying and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions."

John Gatins received his first Oscar nomination for writing the Flight screenplay. His other writing credits include Coach Carter, Real Steel and this year's Need for Speed.
