According to The Hollywood Reporter, While 20th Century Fox's Kingdom of Heaven easily topped the charts on its debut this weekend, the historical epic from director Ridley Scott led a somewhat lethargic charge at the domestic boxoffice as the period piece conquered an estimated $20 million.

Warners' House of Wax scared up an estimated $12.2 million to place second on its debut. The R-rated horror film, inspired by the Vincent Price classic from 1953, was produced by Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment and stars Elisha Cuthbert, Chad Michael Murray and Paris Hilton.

The third wide release this weekend, another R-rated picture, was Lions Gates' Crash, which tied for third place with Buena Vista's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, as both films reported an estimated $9.1 million.
