The finale of Hawkeye delivered with the introduction of Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin in the MCU, finally bringing in the supervillain from the Daredevil series on Netflix. With D'Onofrio reprising the role, this Kingpin is clearly much stronger than the Wilson Fisk we met in Daredevil. Even so, D'Onofrio insists that this is the "same guy" he played before, even if he's much more powerful now than the last time we saw him a few years back.

Aside from his physical changes, some fans also noticed the unique outfit worn by Kingpin in Hawkeye. Wearing the supervillain's familiar white suit, Kingpin at one point wore a red-and-white Hawaiian shirt. Some Marvel experts will recognize this look as coming directly from Marvel's Family Business graphic novel. D'Onofrio himself is personally a big fan, and as told to ComicBook.com, the actor said it was actually his idea for Kingpin to incorporate this look into Hawkeye.

"I may have told you this before, but the screensaver on my computer is that Family Business cover of him in that shirt. It has been for several years. And yeah, that is something that I brought to the table for Hawkeye."

It wasn't always the plan for D'Onofrio to appear in Hawkeye, as the actor also says he wasn't approached to reprise the role until after the Disney+ show started filming. Because of the unclear fate of the character by the end of Hawkeye's first season, it also remains to be seen if we will see Kingpin showing back up in other Marvel projects. It does seem likely, and should Kingpin return again, D'Onofrio is hoping to reunite with Charlie Cox for another Kingpin vs. Daredevil brawl.

"I've never thought about it in those terms before," D'Onofrio told the Toronto Sun, speaking to the suggestion that Kingpin could be the MCU's next big bad. "I guess that's up to Marvel and Kevin and the writers. Do I think he’s capable of being the guy that's behind everything? In my mind, he always was … I don't think we’ve begun to explore how interesting Fisk is."

This follows prior comments from the actor to Deadline, where he also said, "I hope he didn't die... I'm with the fans, I want to keep playing this part. My hope is that we continue. I know as much as you do. I can only hope that I get to continue to explore the different facets of this guy. I just love playing him so much."

Marvel certainly had some huge surprises in store for fans to end the year, and we can only wonder what's to come in 2022. For more multiverse fun, fans are anticipating Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is rumored to include all kinds of different characters, similar to Spider-Man: No Way Home. As we just saw with Kingpin in Hawkeye, Marvel characters are also bound to show up in any other project at any given time, so it's going to be exciting as Phase Four continues to unfold in the next couple of years.
