20th Century Fox's upcoming sequel Kingsman 2 has been in casting mode as of late, with Julianne Moore and Halle Berry coming aboard to join original Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton. Today we have a new report from Empire Magazine (courtesy of Comic Book Movie), which reveals the title has been changed to Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Here's what director Matthew Vaughn had to say about the follow-up.
"I didn't know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot."
The story will continue to follow wayward tough Eggsy as he moves from the wrong side of the tracks of London to become a suave and sophisticated special agent. The original story took place in the U.K., but the action is moving to the United States this time around. While there were rumors that Colin Firth may return in some form, despite being dispatched in the original, he is not expected to make it back for the sequel. There were originally plans to bringing him back via a flashback or a twin brother, but those ideas have been discarded. The series is focusing on Eggsy as the main protagonist. The director did address whether he'll have another sequence like the church massacre in the original movie.
"You try not to read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you've never seen before."
While he wouldn't divulge too many plot details the director teased the the sequel will involve a skiing sequence, a barroom brawl, robot dogs, one-armed henchmen and a sequence where the protagonists have the fend off "a massive f***ing frankfurter."
The magazine also revealed concept art images featuring Statesman headquarters, the U.S. version of Kingsman. And Poppyland, the "secret lair" of the villainous Poppy, (Julianne Moore). The Statesman HQ has been destroyed in this image, an attack which leads Eggsy and Merlin (Mark Strong) to visit the U.S., where they encounter Halle Berry, the head of the CIA, and a "swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy" called Jack, who hasn't been cast. Take a look at the concept art images below, and stay tuned for more on Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
