Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton has now provided a promising update on the state of the long-awaited sequel in the action spy franchise, Kingsman 3. Appearing on the Sirius XM show The Jess Cagle Podcast with Julia Cunningham, Egerton revealed that Kingsman 3 is nearing production, with the actor claiming that the project will begin filming in 2023 — though he is quick to advise fans not to take his word as gospel...
"My understanding is that we are to be shooting the third installment in my saga I believe next year. But you know, don't listen to what I say because I don't really know. You know, they're grown up decisions."
While Egerton admits that he is somewhat out of the loop when it comes to production start dates and other so-called “grown-up decisions,” he can’t be all that wrong about where Kingsman 3 currently stands. Can he? The actor went on to reveal that he is but "a humble pawn in the equation," but was able to confirm that, "there is a script." Regardless of how accurate Egerton is with the details surrounding the filming schedule, it sounds like Kingsman 3 is certainly going to happen eventually, and here’s hoping it will be as soon as next year.
Kingsman 3 Will Center on Eggsy & Harry
Released in 2014, the first Kingsman outing introduced audiences to Taron Egerton as Gary "Eggsy" Unwin, an intelligent, capable, ne'er-do-well who is taken under the wing of Colin Firth’s Harry Hart. Eggsy becomes the latest recruit of the Kingsman, a secret spy organization that is attempting to thwart a megalomaniac and eco-terrorist from wiping out most of humanity.
Directed by Matthew Vaughn and based on the comic book of the same name by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, Kingsman: The Secret Service was met with positive reviews from critics, who praised the action, style, and performances, as well as the movie’s ability to deliver a fun, old-school-style espionage adventure. A sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, followed in 2017 but was sadly met with mixed reviews, as was the most recent outing, the prequel The King's Man, both of which have divided opinion and caused many to wonder whether the franchise should have stopped with the first movie.
Despite this, a third movie is coming, with many hoping that Kingsman 3 will both excite and satisfy as it wraps up the story of Eggsy.
Director Matthew Vaughn has teased certain details about Kingsman 3, revealing that it will center on the relationship between Eggsy and Harry. “Eggsy and Harry [will be in it], obviously,” the filmmaker said. “But it’s the gang coming back together and it’s one of those moments that…when we wrote the screenplay, it was very much about, okay, I saw how people loved the relationship of Eggsy and Harry. So we just came up with this thing, what could be the ultimate reason for them to either fall in love or to hate each other forever? So that’s what this movie is all about is will they or won’t they, let’s just say.”
If Taron Egerton is right, expect to see a lot more from Kingsman 3 in the near future. Until then, Egerton may soon be busy with another franchise...
