Rian Johnson has confirmed the trailer for Knives Out will be released tomorrow. The director released a short teaser today to raise excitement for tomorrow's big event. The murder-mystery is one of the most anticipated movies of the year and boasts an incredible cast, which Johnson sarcastically thinks we may have heard of. The first footage was shown earlier this year at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, which is when the hype for the "modern day American whodunnit" really started to blossom.

Work on Knives Out started production in October 2018, which was a little over a year from when the project was first announced with Rian Johnson at the helm. Production wrapped in late December 2018. In addition to directing the mystery, Johnson also wrote the movie and many believe this won't be a traditional take on the murder mystery genre since the director likes twists and unexpected turns. He had this to say when announcing the trailer release for tomorrow, July 2nd.

"Knives Out trailer TOMORROW! It's an original modern day American whodunnit, coming out this Thanksgiving. It has a few actors you might recognize. I am very very excited about it. Watch this space..."

As for that cast Rian Johnson thinks we all may have heard of, it includes Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, and Christopher Plummer. Frank Oz has also revealed he has a part in the upcoming movie, though he couldn't say much about the project. Oz and Johnson previously worked on 2017's The Last Jedi together, which turned into quite possibly the most divisive Star Wars movie in the franchise's long history.

Rian Johnson cited many different influences for Knives Out. The director considers Evil Under the Sun, Murder by Death, Death on the Nile, The Last of Sheila, Deathtrap, Clue, Gosford Park, The Mirror Crack'd, Something's Afoot, Murder on the Orient Express, and The Private Eyes all to be influences on his upcoming movie. It looks like his influences are a little all over the place. However, Michael Shannon thinks Knives Out is comparable to the works of mystery legend Agatha Christie, which sounds very promising.

The short Knives Out teaser doesn't really offer much since there is no footage, but it does look like Christopher Plummer will have the patriarch role in the murder mystery. Will he be killed off right from the start, or will Rian Johnson be throwing in a clever twist? For now, it's much too early to tell, but we should at least get a better look at the movie tomorrow when the trailer officially drops. Knives Out hits theaters on November 27th and while we wait for that and the trailer release, you can check out the teaser below, thanks to Rian Johnson's Twitter account.
