The new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin dropped on Christmas Day, bringing a new look at the director’s upcoming apocalyptic feature. The director had a hit during the Covid pandemic with the release of Old, and many fans are expecting big things from his latest effort, which boasts an ensemble cast led by Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista and hits cinemas in February 2023. Check out the trailer below.

Knock at the Cabin is very much typical Shyamalan territory, with some big mysterious and terrifying event happening over the course of the movie that has a potentially supernatural twist. According to the director, the movie is one of the quickest scripts he has ever written, which is apparent by the quick turnaround since the release of Old. Shyamalan previously said:

"I will tell you this: strangely, it was the fastest script I've ever written. Signs would have had that title prior to Knock at the Cabin. I probably think, in terms of both of them, that they have this movement, this event, that causes me to write it really fast. Hopefully, audiences will feel that when they come to see it. It is definitely in the wheelhouse of the things you're seeing from me now, especially with [Apple TV+ series] Servant, this contained and gigantic event that's occurring."

Dave Bautista Was M. Night Shyamalan’s First Choice For Knock at the Cabin

Knock at the Cabin Trailer Breakdown
Universal Pictures

Knock at the Cabin is a movie that comes with a big name cast including Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, and Rupert Grint, but when it came to filling out the cast, Dave Bautista was always top of M. Night Shyamalan’s wish list. He previously said:

“I was really taken by what Denis [Villeneuve] and Dave [Bautista] did in that scene in Blade Runner [2049]. He was still in a way that was powerful. There’s a type of stillness where you’re not doing nothing; you’re doing everything and you’re still. Every cell in your body will do what it’s supposed to do if you’re thinking something correctly. And Dave was embodying all of this philosophy in that scene … I didn’t know who he was at that time, and he stuck in my head. So when this script came, I was like, ‘There seems to be one guy who can play this giant human being and do the stillness.’ So I asked Dave.”

The official synopsis of the movie, which is based on the Paul G. Tremblay novel The Cabin at the End of the World, reads:

“While vacationing at a remote cabin, a young girl and her parents are taken hostage by four armed strangers who demand that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. With limited access to the outside world, the family must decide what they believe before all is lost.”

Knock at the Cabin will be released in theaters on February 3, 2023.
