Warning: Article May Contain Spoilers

One word of caution. The folks behind the CW’s Superman & Lois tend to lead viewers astray when it comes to who poses the real threat in the series. Season 1 had most fooled into believing that John Henry Irons was not only a Luther character but that he was Superman’s newest enemy. To be fair, John Henry was misguided and is now Clark’s male bestie. The villain turned out to be Morgan Edge was also misguided, who turned out to be Superman’s brother and is now also his friend. At the beginning of season 2, many thought Doomsday was going to be the big bad only to find out it was Ally Alston with her wannabe God aspirations. With all that said, it appears that John Diggle has set up season 3 with the name-dropping news he shared with John Henry in the diner — Bruno Mannheim.

So just who is Bruno Mannheim? According to comic book lore, Bruno “Ugly” Mannheim is one of the world's greatest crime bosses, a brutal madman who is the leader of the worldwide crime syndicate, Intergang. For reasons unknown, Mannheim murdered John Henry Irons and that information would reach the hands of A.R.G.U.S., Diggle’s old stomping ground. At some point, Lois Lane went undercover at a restaurant to prove a connection between a local politician and Bruno Mannheim.

Will Organize Crime Be Coming to Smallville in Season 3?

During a recent red-carpet event, Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois) said this about season 3, “I do know that we’re getting a very cool villain.” Not much to go on, of course, but imagine organized crime coming to a town like Smallville where unlawful opportunities might sound tempting to its out-of-work residents. Season 2 also ended with audiences getting a gander at Jordan Kent growing into his superpowers. In a recent interview with KryptonSite, showrunner Todd Helbing was asked if Jordan would be getting a costume of his own in season 3 or keep the hoodie. He confirmed a Superboy moniker and actual costume will be coming, but for now, he added:

“I think for right now, the hoodie…At some point, he’s gonna be called Superboy. At some point, he’s gonna get a haircut. We’ll find the most organic way, or what we feel like is the best way to have these steps happen. But I would be shocked if you watch premiere of season 3, and he’s in an outfit, with a haircut, and is Superboy.”

With Superboy, a Fortress of Solitude vacation hotspot where Jonathan will probably develop new technology, and the villain possibly being the leader of organized crime ... sounds like the Kent family is in for some more hectic times.
