The upcoming animated superhero series, Koala Man, has now been given a release date of January 9, 2023. The news comes exclusively from Hulu, with the series set to star Logan and Deadpool 3 star Hugh Jackman alongside YOLO: Crystal Fantasy star Michael Cusack as the titular Koala Man.

“Koala Man follows middle-aged dad Kevin and his titular not-so-secret identity, whose only superpower is a burning passion for following rules and snuffing out petty crime in the town of Dapto,” the official synopsis for the animated series reads. “Though it may seem like any other Australian suburb, forces of evil both cosmic and man-made lie in wait to pounce on unsuspecting Daptonians. On a quest to clean up his hometown, and often roping his frustrated family into his adventures, Koala Man stands at the ready. He’ll do whatever it takes to defeat villainous masterminds, supernatural horrors, or worse: jerks who don’t take their rubbish bins down on the proper days.”

Koala Man comes from Aussie creator/animator Michael Cusack (YOLO: Crystal Fantasy, Smiling Friends) – who will also voice the titular hero and his son, Liam. The series has some impressive credits to its name, and is being executive produced by Solar Opposites and Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and Pokemon: Detective Pikachu writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. Michael Cowap also serves as executive producer.

Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman will star in Koala Man as Big Greg, the most well-liked man in the town of Dapto. The head of the Town Council, former host of Australia’s third most popular fishing show, "Fishing Big with Big Greg," and Koala Man’s boss, Big Greg loves taking credit for the superhero’s heroic endeavors. Jackman’s role in Koala Man marks the beloved actor’s first major role in an animated series.

Joining Michael Cusack and Hugh Jackman in Koala Man are the likes of Sarah Snook, who stars as Kevin’s wife, Vicky; Demi Lardner, who will play Kevin and Vicky’s daughter Alison; Jemaine Clement, who stars as principal Bazwell, who is always ready with an uplifting song for the students; Rachel House as Janine, Vicky’s friend and co-worker at the school canteen, and Louise, the owner of the local bowling club who has a deep, and some would say inexplicable, attraction to Koala Man; and Jarrad Wright, who will voice Spider, Kevin’s uncouth best friend, and sort-of sidekick to Koala Man, especially when he needs an illegal weapon to carry out his duties.

Koala Man will also see The Lord of the Rings stars Miranda Otto and Hugo Weaving making guest appearances on the series. Otto, who is best known for roles in the likes of The Lord of the Rings franchise and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will voice the sweet koala cub Mindy, with whom Koala Man shares a bond. Meanwhile, The Matrix star Hugo Weaving will provide the voice of King Emudeus, “the wise and noble monarch of Australia’s emus.”

So, once again, for those in the back or perhaps just not paying attention, Koala Man will make his debut on January 9, 2023, on Hulu. Koala Man is produced by 20th Television Animation for Hulu.
