Kodi Smit-McPhee has just signed on to co-star in the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize winner The Road. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Smit-McPhee, 11, will play Mortensen's son in this tale of a month's long journey across a barren U.S. landscape after a cataclysmic event destroyed most of the life on Earth.

The Melbourne native recently starred opposite Eric Bana, Marton Csokas and Franka Potente in Romulus, My Father. Charlize Theron will also star in this highly anticipated picture, which is being produced by 2929 Productions, Nick Wechsler Productions and Chockstone Pictures.

Production for The Road is scheduled to start next month.
