Back in January, it was announced that Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is behind a new web series for CW Seed, which centers on both the actor Ryan Hansen and his Dick Casablancas character from the original series and the Veronica Mars movie. Today, it has been confirmed that the web series will be entitled Play It Again, Dick, and will feature Veronica Mars stars Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls), Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars), Percy Daggs III (Wallace Fennel), Daran Norris (Cliff McCormack), Francis Capra (Eli "Weevil" Navarro), Kyle Gallner (Cassidy "Beaver" Casablancas) and Christopher B. Duncan (Clarence Wiedman), all playing both their fictional characters and real-life versions of themselves.

The show will follow Ryan Hansen trying to kickstart his writing career by crafting a spin-off of the Veronica Mars series. Here's how series creator Rob Thomas described the project back in January, comparing it to Party Down.

"The web series will have more in common with Party Down tonally, but it will be about Ryan Hansen, or at least a version of Ryan Hansen, deciding to capitalize on the current Veronica Mars heat to get his own series on the air. He'll try to pull his actor pals into the venture with varying degrees of success."

Also joining the cast is Ryan Devlin, who played rapist Mercer Hayes in Veronica Mars Season 3, but now will be Teddy Dunn's character Duncan Kane, while also playing a version of himself. Chris Lowell and Ken Marino are also two of the only returning alums who will only play themselves, and not their characters from Veronica Mars. On the flip side, Amanda Noret and Lisa Thornhill are only appearing in the "show-within-a-show" as Madison Sinclair and Celeste Kate respectively, and not as fictionalized versions of themselves.

On top of all the returning Veronica Mars cast members, Rose McIver and Robert Buckley, who star in Rob Thomas's new CW series IZombie, will guest star on the series. Robert Buckley is playing choreographer Gaston, who ends up replacing Jason Dohring as Echolls on the show-within-a-show, while Rose McIver is playing characters named "Skank With Attitude" and "Horny Mourner." Wesley Chan, Philip Wang, and Christopher Dinh, CW President Mark Pedowitz and CW's head of development Thom Sherman will also be featured in the series.

While a specific premiere date was not given, production recently wrapped on Play It Again, Dick, which is slated to premiere sometime during the week of September 15 on CW Seed. New episodes will be released every week that run between eight to 10 minutes apiece.
