Syfy has brought on The Vampire Diaries and Melrose Place alum Shaun Sipos to play the iconic DC character Adam Strange in their new comic book series Krypton, which serves as a Superman prequel. After Syfy debuted a Krypton trailer at San Diego Comic-Con in July, the network announced the addition of several new characters to the hit series, one of whom was Adam Strange, with the others being Hawkwoman and Brainiac. It's possible that Syfy could be gearing up to announce casting for the remaining characters in the near future.

Deadline broke the news about Shaun Stipos' casting today, revealing that Adam Strange is a "world-weary human" who finds himself stranded on Krypton. He becomes the unlikely mentor to Seg-El, Superman's grandfather, who is played by newcomer Cameron Cuffe. Deadline also reports that he will have a series regular role in the show, although it hasn't been confirmed when the show may air at this time.

Syfy issued a series order for this Superman prequel series back in May, although no production schedule was given. Syfy also hasn't announced when the show may air, but with the cast coming together, we may learn sooner rather than later. The series is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel's home planet, centering on Superman's grandfather Seg-El, who tries to restore order and honor to the House of El, after his family was shamed and ostracized. The series is said to be set 200 years before Kal-El, a.k.a. Superman, was even born, although executive producer and DC Television President Geoff Johns revealed at Comic-Con that there will also be elements of the show set in present day. Here's what he had o say at SDCC below.

"It's a show that, although it takes place centuries ago on Krypton about the House of El, it's about a conspiracy from the present that has traveled back in time to Krypton to prevent Superman's legacy from ever happening. Adam Strange and Hawkwoman come to Krypton trying to stop the conspiracy and save Superman's legacy. Doomsday will be in the show. Brainiac is long overdue to be on screen like that."

Krypton also stars Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod, the daughter of General Alura Zod, who has been having a secret affair with Seg-El, Elliot Cowan as Daron Vex, the Chief Magistrate of Kandor, Ann Ogbomo as Lyta's mother, Primus Alura Zod, Krypton's military guild leader, Rasmus Hardiker as the rankless Kem, Wallis Day as Nyssa Vex, a junior magistrate and the daughter of Daron Vex, Aaron Pierre playing Dev-Em, a cadet under the command of Primus Alura Zod, with Ian McElhinney as Val-El, Seg-El's grandfather. David S. Goyer and Damian Kindler wrote the pilot script, from a story by Ian Goldberg and Goyer, with Colm McCarthy serving as director and co-executive producer. Shaun Sipos stars in the upcoming Starz series Insomnia, and he has also had arcs on Dark Matter, The Vampire Diaries, Life Unexpected and Melrose Place.
