Lady Gaga is ready to shine as the Joker's lover in Joker: Folie á Deux. The filming of the highly anticipated sequel, directed by Todd Phillips and with Joaquin Phoenix again in the lead role, began a few days ago. The details and images did not take long to appear on social media while the filming progressed.

After the enormous and surprising success of the 2019 film despite its R rating, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC did not hesitate to give the green light to the sequel, which will heavily feature musical elements led by the duo Phoenix and Gaga, telling us the origin of one of the most toxic and legendary romances in the history of the comic book company, born no less than within the walls of the iconic Arkham Asylum.

Through Discussing Film, the first images of the famous singer completely turned into Harley came to light, with a look that directly pays homage to the original costume and the character's first appearance in Batman the Animated Series, long before Margot Robbie would popularize it:

Joker: Folie á Deux will also feature performances by Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Harry Lawtey, and the return of Zazie Beetz.

Harley Quinn's Origin

DC Comics

Harley Quinn was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm as a comic relief henchwoman for the supervillain Joker in Batman: The Animated Series, which debuted in the 22nd episode, Joker's Favor, on September 11, 1992.

While intended to appear in one episode, Quinn became a recurring character within the DC Animated Universe as the Joker's sidekick and love interest, and was adapted into DC Comics seven years later, beginning with the one-shot Batman: Harley Quinn #1 in October 1999.

Quinn's origin story features her as a former psychiatrist at Gotham City's Arkham Asylum named Dr. Harleen Quinzel, who fell in love with the Joker, her patient, eventually becoming his accomplice and lover. The character's alias is a play on the stock character Harlequin from the 16th-century theater commedia dell'arte.

In 2016, the character became a global hit thanks to Margot Robbie’s performance in Suicide Squad. She would later reprise the role in Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn and The Suicide Squad.

Later, in 2019, former The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco voiced the character for her own animated series, which is now part of the HBO Max catalog and will continue despite the changes within DC Studios.
