The wait is almost over for the new season of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. Renewed for a fifth season last summer, the series features veteran horror host Joe Bob Briggs alongside Darcy the Mail Girl as the two dive into genre classics and offer their thoughts. Shudder has now released a new trailer for season 5 ahead of the show's return on the streaming service on April 21. You can check out the new trailer below.

One big change that comes with the show for season 5 is that, for the first time, it's been split up into halves. It will be the first half of season 5 that premieres this month, and after a brief hiatus, the show returns in mid-June to go through the rest of the season. This will keep the fun going for a little bit longer for the horror fans tuning in.

“Thanks to the Shudder team for giving us the chance to hang out another year with the greatest fans in media," Briggs previously said when announcing season 5. "I’m constantly amazed by their affection and I’m constantly learning from them."

Shudder's Craig Engler added, "We're delighted to bring Joe Bob, Darcy and the rest of The Last Drive-in Team back for another season of crazy movies, live tweeting, and the most entertaining commentary on TV,” adds Shudder General Manager Craig Engler. “We'll also have more special guests and themed holiday episodes, because as Joe Bob says, the drive-in never dies.”

It's not yet clear what films will be covered in season 5 of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. Season 4 included titles like Black Sunday, Night of the Living Dead, Slaughterhouse, Nosferatu the Vampyre, The Stepfather, Head of the Family, Uncle Sam, and Nightbreed. Special guests like Svengoolie, Larry Fessenden, and Charles Band were also featured.

The series first debuted in 2018 on Shudder for what was intended to be a one-off special. It had such a good response from fans that the decision was quickly made to keep Joe Bob Briggs around for a while on Shudder, formulating The Last Drive-In as an ongoing series. There's been more to come as well in between seasons as Briggs has hosted holiday-themed specials on several occasions as well.

Season 5 of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs will premiere on Friday, April 21, at 9 p.m. ET. It streams live on Shudder TV and AMC+ TV. After the show airs live, it is made available for streaming the following day on Shudder and AMC+.
