Charlie Hunnam and Mel Gibson will be sharing the screen in February. The pair's new film Last Looks, an action comedy movie originally titled Waldo, has just been acquired by RLJE Films for its North American distribution rights. The company is planning a day-and-date release for the film in February after RLJE Films' Chief Acquisitions Officer Mark Ward negotiated the deal with Romulus Entertainment's Brad Feinstein.

“We’re delighted to release Last Looks next year,” Ward said, per Deadline. “We cannot wait to work with the film’s amazing cast who will take audiences through this unique ‘whodunit’ adventure.”

Brad Feinstein (Bruised) produced the feature with Andrew Lazar (American Sniper), Steven Shainberg (Rupture), and Christina Weiss Lurie (Persuasion). Tim Kirkby (Brockmire) directed the film, which also stars Morena Baccarin, Rupert Friend, Dominic Monaghan, Lucy Fry, and Cliff "Method Man" Smith. It's adapted by Howard Michael Gould, based on his detective novel series.

A synopsis of the movie reads: "Last Looks introduces to the big screen Charlie Waldo (Hunnam), an ex-LAPD superstar who left the force and now lives a life of simplicity and solitude deep in the woods. Alistair Pinch (Gibson) is an eccentric actor who spends his days drunk on the set of his TV show. When Pinch’s wife is found dead, he is the prime suspect and Waldo is convinced to come out of retirement to investigate what happened. The case finds Waldo contending with gangsters, Hollywood executives, and preschool teachers, all in pursuit of clearing Pinch’s name, or confirming his guilt."

Charlie Hunnam, well known for his role on Sons of Anarchy, has previously appeared in movies like Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak, The Lost City of Z, and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. He recently starred in Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen and will appear in the upcoming drama thriller series Shantaram on Apple TV+. His name is also one that comes up often with fans as a good possibility for Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2.

Meanwhile, Mel Gibson has been working very hard with his acting career lately with roles in Fatman, Boss Level, and Dangerous. It was also recently announced he'd be leading the fantasy adventure movie Boys of Summer. He'll be doing plenty behind the camera as well as Gibson is simultaneously planning sequels to The Passion of the Christ and Lethal Weapon. Following the passing of Richard Donner, Gibson will reportedly direct Lethal Weapon 5 in addition to reprising his role as Riggs.

"The man who directed all the Lethal films, Richard Donner, he was a big guy," Gibson said in November. "He was developing the screenplay and he got pretty far along with it. And he said to me one day, 'Listen kid, if I kick the bucket you will do it.' And I said: 'Shut up.' But he did indeed pass away."

Gibson added, "But he did ask me to do it and at the time I didn't say anything. He said it to his wife and to the studio and the producer. So I will be directing the fifth one."

Last Looks will be released by RLJE Films in theaters and on VOD with a day-and-date release in February 2022.
