Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, who appeared in a Season 1 episode of HBO's True Detective, has signed on to play an evil witch in Lionsgate's The Last Witch Hunter.

Vin Diesel stars as the title character, who teams up with his natural enemy (Rose Leslie) to stop an evil coven of witches, one of whom is played by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, from unleashing a supernatural plague upon New York City. Michael Caine and Elijah Wood also co-star in unspecified roles.

Breck Eisner (The Crazies, Sahara) is directing from a screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold, Gods of Egypt), based on a pitch by Cory Goodman (Priest, Apollo 18). D.W. Harper (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) and Melisa Wallack (Dallas Buyers Club, Mirror Mirror) also worked on the script. It isn't known when production will begin.

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson's big-screen credits include Contraband, The Deep and last year's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. He has also appeared in several episodes of Cinemax's Banshee.
