Academy Award winner Jared Leto struggles to control his urges in the latest footage from Sony’s upcoming Marvel outing, Morbius. Released via social media, the short clip has Leto’s doctor-turned-vampire partaking in all manner of blood-sucking and bullet-dodging as he struggles to come to terms with his newfound powers and struggles to battle the monster within.

Morbius will introduce one of Marvel's most compelling and conflicted characters as House of Gucci and Dallas Buyers Club star Jared Leto is transformed into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease, transforming the good doctor into a conflicted monster.

Life and Child 44 director Daniel Espinosa will helm Morbius, which stars an all-star cast led by Jared Leto as a scientist suffering from a rare blood disease whose attempts to cure himself afflict him with a form of vampirism. Emerging with all of the strengths and none of the weaknesses associated with the legendary creature, except for the thirst, of course, Morbius began life in the pages of Marvel Comics as a Spider-Man villain before transforming into more of an antihero.

Doctor Who actor Matt Smith stars alongside Leto as Milo, a friend of Morbius who suffers from the same blood disease. The rest of the supporting cast is made up of Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft; Jared Harris as Nicholas, a mentor and father figure for Morbius and Milo; and Al Madrigal as Alberto Rodriguez with Tyrese Gibson as Simon Stroud, a pair of FBI agents on the hunt for Morbius.

Interestingly, Michael Keaton reprises his role as Adrian Toomes AKA The Vulture from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which begs the question...

Sony Pictures Releasing

Ever since the first trailer for Morbius was released, fans have wondered how exactly Sony’s latest foray into the world of Spider-Man and Marvel will fit into all of the shared universes that are currently on display on the big screen. Intriguingly, footage so far has included hints towards all manner of shared universes, including The Amazing Spider-Man, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man franchise and, of course, the Sony Spider-Man Universe projects such as Venom.

These clues have led some to even wonder whether Morbius will embark on an adventure across the many multiverses in the movie. While this is unlikely, it does seem that Morbius will be used to slowly bring all the shards of Spider-Man together, with Michael Keaton’s role as The Vulture perhaps even suggesting that Sony will eventually make the Sinister Six movie they have attempted to bring to screens for so long.

Fortunately, we do not have to wait too long to see how Morbius fits into the shared universe, with the movie scheduled to be released in the United States on April 1, 2022.
