Variety reports that Legendary Pictures is putting together a feature film about Jimi Hendrix.

The film will be shepherded by Legendary president Thomas Tull. Max Borenstein is writing the screenplay.

Apparently, rights issues have presented barriers to previous Hendrix projects. The plan is for Legendary to develop the film, and then hopefully get the consent from the estate. It looks like Experience Hendrix, the people that own the musician's estate, haven't been easy to make a deal with. Janie Hendrix, Jimi's stepsister, currently runs the venture.

Legendary has been talking with the estate in a cursory manner, but there is no rights deal in place as of yet. This would be needed to access the musician's music.
