Last season, actress Meganlyn Echikunwoke came aboard to play the DC Comics character Vixen in an Arrow guest starring role, and she also signed on to voice the character in CW Seed's animated web series Vixen. While we don't know if Vixen will be back for Arrow this fall, The CW's Legends of Tomorrow is bringing in a different version of this superhero. Actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers has come aboard to play this new version of Vixen in Legends of Tomorrow, although she won't be replacing Meganlyn Echikunwoke.

Deadline reports that Maisie Richardson Sellers is actually playing Amaya Jiwe, grandmother to Megalyn Echikunwoke's Mari Jiwe McCabe. This will enable Megalyn Echikunwoke to keep voicing Vixen on the animated series, and possibly return to Arrow at some point. Given the time travel nature of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, it's also possible that both Amaya and Mari could meet somewhere down the road.

Vixen was created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Bob Oksner, who first appeared in 1978. Vixen is the latest in a long line of heroes who, thanks to powers derived from the Tantu Totem, given to them by African mythological hero Anansi, can assume the abilities of any animal that exists on earth, along with a healing factor that makes her hard to kill. Vixen was once a member of the Suicide Squad and Justice League, before being rebooted as part of DC's New 52.

It isn't known exactly how many episodes Maisie Richardson-Sellers signed on for at this time. It is possible that she could surface during the crossover between Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, but we don't know for sure quite yet. We'll most likely get more details about this epic crossover during all four shows' panels at Comic-Con 2016 next month.

Maisie Richardson-Sellers made her TV debut just a few years ago on The CW's The Originals, portraying Eva Sinclair. She also starred in the blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Korr Sella, a Resistance officer seen reporting to General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher). She also starred in Of Kings and Prophets as well. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any updates on Season 2 of Legends of Tomorrow, which has been given a Thursday, October 14 premiere date on The CW.
