Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who both wrote and directed this year's blockbuster The Lego Movie, have signed on to write the sequel The Lego Movie 2, but it still isn't known if they will come back to direct.

We reported in February that Jared Stern (The Internship) and Michelle Morgan (Nancy Drew) were writing the script, but now Warner Bros. has brought back the original writers to work on the script. We also reported in March that Chris McKay signed on to direct the sequel, but Warner Bros. moved him over to the spin-off The LEGO Batman Movie.

No plot details were given for The Lego Movie 2 at this time, but Warner Bros. has already announced that Ninjago will hit theaters on September 23, 2016, with The LEGO Batman Movie arriving in 2017 and The Lego Movie 2 set to hit theaters in 2018, with another unspecified LEGO movie arriving on May 24, 2019. Dan Lin and Roy Lee are producing the sequel alongside Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

The Lego Movie has earned $468 million worldwide since its debut in February. Phil Lord and Chris Miller most recently directed the live-action sequel 22 Jump Street.
