Director Len Wiseman has dropped out of the Untitled Mummy Reboot for Universal Pictures, citing scheduling issues. The project is still moving ahead, with the studio currently searching for another filmmaker to take the helm.

The filmmaker signed on for the reboot last September, just a month after his latest film, the Total Recall remake, debuted in theaters. However, we haven't heard much about the project since then, except for a report from February when screenwriter Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) signed on to write a draft separate from the existing script written by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus). That story indicated that Universal was considering combining both drafts into one shooting script.

Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Sean Daniel are producing and spearheading the effort to find a new director. The producers had previously stated that they hope to make a darker version than the 1999 hit The Mummy, which spawned the sequels The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008.
