Sapphire, otherwise known as Ramona Lofton, is having her best selling novel Push turned into a feature film by director Lee Daniels. According to Variety, Lenny Kravitz will make his feature film debut in the project. Mo'nique, Paula Patton and newcomer Gabourey "Gabbie" Sidibe will also star.

The story follows an overweight, illiterate African-American teen named Clareece "Precious" Jones. Just as she is about to have her second child, she is accepted into an alternative school where she finds a new path in life. Mo'nique will play the girl's mother and Kravitz will play a male nurse that befriends the young teen

Daniels stated, "Push is as important to me as Roots, and I'm honored that Sapphire entrusted me with her book." The film does not have a set start date at this time.
