According to Variety, IMDb TV has renewed their hit streaming show, Leverage: Redemption for a second season. The show from Electric Entertainment was a bright spot for the free streaming service this summer, rating highly with audiences both on IMDb itself and on Rotten Tomatoes. The first half of season 1 premiered on July 9, with the second batch of eight episodes dropping October 8. Just two months later, IMDb announced they would release a second season of the show.

“Bringing back these characters has been a dream come true, and working with such incredible people as the team at IMDb TV has been an absolute pleasure. So excited we get to do it all over again,” said Dean Devlin of Electric Entertainment, who serves as executive producer and co-showrunner for Leverage: Redemption.

Leverage: Redemption is a followup to the Devlin-produced hit show Leverage, which follows five thieves as they steal from the rich and powerful in order to help people who have been hurt by those who see themselves as above the law. For five seasons, the Leverage team took on the worst types of cases, using their skills to help people rather then lining their own pockets. When Leverage went off the air, the team went off on their separate ways, with the characters of Nate Ford and Sophie Devereaux going off to start their lives together while the rest of the team went on to continue the mission by expanding the team into international groups with the same mission. Leverage: Redemption picks up their stories nearly a decade later.

From IMDb: "The rich and powerful take what they want, and the Leverage team is back to take them down. Sophie Devereaux, Eliot Spencer, Alec Hardison and Parker have watched the world change over the last eight years. It's become easier, and sometimes legal, for the rich to become richer and the powerful to squash anyone who gets in their way. Sadly down one team member, they find new blood in Harry Sullivan, a corporate lawyer who is looking for redemption after realizing he'd been sitting on the wrong side of the table for his entire career. In this new world, the team will use their collective skills to take down a new kind of villain. From the man who created an opioid crisis from the comfort of his boardroom, to the woman who prefers to deport workers instead of paying them, to the shadowy security firm that helps hide dangerous secrets for a price, when someone needs help, they provide... Leverage."

Leverage: Redemption stars Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, and Beth Riesgraf reprising their roles from the original Leverage series as series regulars. In addition, Aldis Hodge, also a series regular on Leverage, makes as many appearances as he can as his filming schedule with Showtime's City on a Hill permits. They are joined by new cast members Noah Wyle and Alyese Shannon.

Original Leverage star Timothy Hutton did not return for the new series because of what was, at the time, still a pending court case for sexual assault. In the era of the Me Too movement it would have been impossible to include Hutton while such charges were still pending. With those charges now dismissed, it remains to be seen if Hutton can still make an appearance on the show, even if it is just in a flashback.

Season 1 of Leverage: Redemption is streaming now on IMDb TV, a free streaming service available as a separate app or as a part of Prime Video. All five seasons of Leverage are also available on IMDb TV.
