Now that Deadpool is a certified phenomenon and box office blockbuster to boot, what's next for Ryan Reynolds? He's not straying too far from camp, as he reunites with the writers behind his latest superhero hit for a sci-fi drama titled Life. Rebecca Ferguson is in talks to co-star.

Life is being produced by Skydance productions, with a script from Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, perhaps best known for Zombieland. Daniel Espinosa, the filmmaker behind Safe House, also starring Ryan Reynolds, will direct Life. Espinosa signed on back in November, and Ryan Reynolds was already in talks before Deadpool obliterated the box office.

Life is being produced by Skydance's David Ellison and Dana Goldberg. Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn are on as co-producers. The movie revolves around a Mars mission that discovers intelligent Alien life. Paramount Pictures is expected to distribute what is being called a 'big-scale picture'.

Some are looking at the success of Deadpool as an anomaly in Ryan Reynolds' career. The actor has long been poised to become a big star, but his studio tentpoles have not fared so well in the past, with Green Lantern and R.I.P.D. both considered substantial bombs. He has fared much better on the indie side of things, with strong turns in Buried, The Voices, Self/less and Mississippi Grind.

Deadpool 2 has already been green lit by 20th Century Fox. The sequel will also reunite leading man Ryan Reynolds with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The studio has not yet announced a release date for the follow-up, but it sounds likely that Life will shoot first.
