Tobey Maguire has joined the cast of Ang Lee's Life of Pi, an adaptation of Yann Martel's novel.

The story centers on Pi (Suraj Sharma), a teenager who gets set adrift with a Bengal tiger after it killed three other animals. Tobey Maguire will play a writer who interviews the adult Pi (Irrfan Khan) about the experience. Gérard Depardieu, Adil Hussain, and Tabu also star in Life of Pi.

Ang Lee will direct the movie, which will be shot in 3D, from an adapted script by David Magee. Here's what the director had to say about casting Tobey Maguire.

"I am delighted that Tobey has joined the film. He is one of my favorite actors that I have ever had the pleasure of working with and I am so excited that we get to work together for a third time."

Tobey Maguire previously starred in The Ice Storm and Ride with the Devil for Ang Lee.
