A new special look and poster further tease the upcoming adventure of Disney and Pixar’s heroic Space Ranger in Lightyear. Released courtesy of the official Twitter account, the latest footage is captioned “This team is better than none” and introduces us to the loveably mismatched crew that will assist Buzz Lightyear on his first standalone, and non-toy adventure.

Alongside the footage, a newly released poster for Lightyear again puts the spotlight on the ensemble cast of amateur astronauts. Captioned “We have a plan. And we have a team,” the poster reveals Lightyear to be a perfect Pixar sci-fi escapade.

Lightyear will act as both a Toy Story spinoff and an in-universe movie, as the story revolves around the origin of the fictional Buzz Lightyear, the character who inspired the popular action figure in the Toy Story franchise. Thus, Lightyear follows Buzz as he prepares to embark on his first test flight to explore new galaxies for Star Command. Marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew, Buzz must try to find a way back home through space and time.

Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda. Buzz might just be the only hope to stop him, and save the galaxy.

Directed by Angus MacLane, Lightyear stars Captain America himself, Chris Evans, as the voice of the title character. The Pixar outing will also boast a stellar supporting cast alongside the Marvel actor and includes Keke Palmer as Izzy Hawthorne, Dale Soules as Steel, Taika Waititi as Morrison, Peter Sohn as Sox, Uzo Aduba as Alicia Hawthorne, Mary McDonald-Lewis as Qurinside, Efren Ramirez as Diaz, Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Commander Burnside, and James Brolin as Emperor Zurg.

Evans has recently teased the “epic cinematic experience” that Lightyear will bring to audiences when it hits theaters later this year. "I can't wait for my new movie, Disney and Pixar's Lightyear, to land in your theaters this summer," Evans said. "You'll finally learn the story behind the toy that got to the hearts of audiences around the world and one of the biggest franchises of all time. This is an epic cinematic experience that has to be seen on the big screen. Thank you so much for your support. I can't wait to see you all at the movies."

Chris Evans takes over as Buzz from Tim Allen, who has voiced the toy-version of the character throughout the Toy Story franchise. While the replacement did disappoint some fans, Lightyear director Angus MacLane has since explained why Evans was the perfect choice for this real-life Buzz. "We needed a new voice for Buzz. He needed to have a nice, rich sound, able to be both dramatic and comedic - and most importantly, he needed to be heroic without coming off as arrogant or dense,” the filmmaker said. “That's a tall order, and we immediately knew we had to ask Chris.”

Lightyear is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on June 17, 2022.
