Lin-Manuel Miranda has done almost everything one could do within the entertainment industry. However, he hasn’t hosted an awards show yet, and according to the Hamilton creator himself, he can’t imagine himself doing it. In fact, Miranda has said no to hosting the Oscars in the past.

Miranda had a tremendous 2021 and will most likely still have his name heard at some point during the Academy Awards. He made his directorial debut with Tick, Tick…Boom!, a semi-autobiographical musical about Rent creator Jonathan Larson. The film has received incredible praise for both Miranda’s direction and the performance of Andrew Garfield as Larson. Miranda also produced a film adaptation of his Tony-winning musical, In The Heights, which was directed by Jon Chu. Miranda had a brief role in the film, but his fingerprints are all over it.

In addition, Miranda had success on the animation front as well with Disney’s Encanto, for which he composed the music. This marks his second collaboration with Disney after he also created the music for Moana. He also starred in and wrote the music for Netflix’s Vivo, where he voiced an adorable, musically-gifted kinkajou.

Miranda Says He 'Wouldn't Feel Comfortable Hosting' the Oscars

Despite his incredible past year and previous accomplishments, Miranda still doesn’t think hosting the Oscars is his “skillset.” In a recent interview with People magazine, Miranda said that while he has written for other hosts of award shows, he “wouldn’t feel comfortable hosting.”

"I have said no in the past. I really don't think that that's my skillset. It's not something I'm comfortable doing, hosting, mainly because I've been lucky enough to work with incredible hosts. I've written for Neil Patrick Harris. I've written his opening numbers and closing numbers for the Tony's. That is a whole other thing. He is genius at that, he and Hugh Jackman. I actually don't think— that's not something I feel confident in. I'm happy to write for the host, but I don't know that... I wouldn't feel comfortable hosting."

The Academy Awards have been without a host for the last three years after the 2019 choice, Kevin Hart, stirred up controversy and eventually led to the awards show being without a host. The Academy Awards are planning on bringing a host back for 2022. Some celebrities that have been in the discussion are Tom Holland and Pete Davidson. There have even been some stories about a possible trio hosting which could include Steve Martin, Martin Short, ad Selena Gomez from Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

The 94th Academy Awards are expected to be held on March 27 and will be broadcast on ABC. For Miranda, his next project is another collaboration with Disney as he will be co-composing and co-producing the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
