Heat Vision is reporting that Disney and screenwriter Linda Woolverton (Alice in Wonderland) are coming together again to bring Maleficent to the big screen. This will be a live-action look at the evil queen from 1959's Sleeping Beauty.

This project could also reunite Woolverton with Tim Burton as he's currently looking at it for his next project. The director got interested in the character this past summer when he was finishing up Alice in Wonderland.

At present there is no deal with Burton, but with Woolverton being hired the project is at least moving forward.

Sleeping Beauty shows Maleficent as "a tall green-skinned woman with horns who can morph into several forms, including a terrifying black and purple dragon." This character has shown up in a lot of Disney books and TV shows and is also a popular Halloween costume.

Maleficent will apparently tell the classic fairy tale from the "Mistress of All Evil's" point of view.
