Disney's The Lion King remake is preparing to hit theaters and the studio is slowly pulling the veil back on the highly anticipated project. The latest TV spot features a little bit more of the "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" duet between Donald Glover and Beyoncé, which was teased earlier this week. In addition, the studio has announced that pre-sale tickets will be on sale starting tomorrow, June 24th. Disney has high hopes for their upcoming remake, which will be the third one released this year.
Disney's The Lion King remake is directed by Jon Favreau and journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub's arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother, and former heir to the throne, has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
Staying true to the classic story, Jon Favreau utilizes pioneering filmmaking techniques, which were first used in his big screen adaptation of The Jungle Book, to bring the iconic characters to the big screen in a whole new way. While the movie was originally called a live-action remake, Disney fans were quick to point out that really isn't the case. However, Favreau and crew insist that the movie was made in the way traditional movies are made, not like other animated features.
So far, the look of The Lion King remake is stunning. The CGI is very impressive, to say the least. When the Aladdin remake was being teased, fans of the original were not happy with the look of Will Smith's Genie character and it started a meme explosion online. But, the movie opened in theaters to great success and has now made over $810 million globally. With that being said, The Lion King has a lot more hype surrounding it with a gigantic cast of A-list celebrities taking on the iconic movie.
The Lion King opens in theaters on July 19th, which should give Spider-Man: Far From Home some time to dominate the box office. Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 4 just hit theaters this weekend, and while it opened up below expectations, it was able to secure the number one spot while becoming the fourth-highest grossing animated debut of all time. It is possible that The Lion King remake will be able to do similar things once Disney starts hitting the promotional campaign even harder. While we wait for pre-sale tickets to go on sale tomorrow, you can check out the latest TV spot below, thanks to the Walt Disney Studios YouTube channel.
