Rights to Suzanne Collins' futuristic young adult novel The Hunger Games have been picked up by Lionsgate Films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nina Jacobson will produce the film through her Independent Color Force production company.

Collins is set to write the screenplay based upon her own book. The plot revolves around a dystopian future where North America has been divided into twelve oppressed districts. Each district is forced to nominate one boy and one girl from their community that will participate in a televised battle to the death.

The film does not have a set start date at this time. Producers are currently seeking a director.
