Lionsgate is getting Bratty.

In a story from Home Media Retailing, the mini-major recently "announced both a theatrical film and a series of animated direct-to-DVD features" that will be based on the dolls.

Crystal Sky Pictures has acquired the "U.S. distribution rights to the live-action film, tentatively titled Bratz: The Movie." Crystal Sky is also financing the film which will be directed by Sean McNamara. Production on the project will begin in February 2007.

Lionsgate also "cut a deal with MGA Entertainment for exclusive North American home entertainment distribution rights to future Bratz DVDs."

The first direct-to-DVD title in the deal will be Bratz Fashion Pixiez that should come out sometime in spring 2007. Each of these new Bratz DVD's "will be supported by all-new lines of dolls and toys based on the movie."

"There is no company that has a better pulse on what today's girl is looking for than MGA," said Steve Beeks, Lionsgate president. "Bratz has been a phenomenal success story; it's amazing to realize that the property is only five years old when considering its incredible popularity and penetration in the marketplace."
