Lizzo wants to steal the role of Ursula from Melissa McCarthy. Late last week, it was revealed McCarthy is in talks with Disney to take on the villainous role in their upcoming Little Mermaid remake. However, Melissa Viviane Jefferson, aka Lizzo, is not having any of it and wants the role for herself, even though she has only a few acting credits under her belt, including the 2017 TV series The Memestar Chronicles and the voice of Lydia in UglyDolls.

When reports started to spread about Melissa McCarthy playing Ursula in The Little Mermaid remake, Lizzo retweeted an article with a crying emoji. She then followed it up with a video of her with purple body paint on, a white wig, and black dress as Ursula. The popstar sang about a minute of "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from the 1990 animated classic and says, "I'm Ursula. Period," while mentioning Disney in her tweet. Her singing voice is on point and while she looks a bit ridiculous in the paint, she probably would make for a good Ursula, at least as far as the singing is concerned.

Lizzo has talked about wanting to play Ursula in The Little Mermaid since last year, which is when she originally posted the videos of her singing in the body paint. While it seems highly unlikely she will be brought on to replace Melissa McCarthy, her music career is on the rise and we're only at the very beginning of what looks like a long and promising career. Perhaps a jump to the big screen will happen sooner rather than later, but Disney reportedly has their hearts set on McCarthy delivering the goods.

It's also important to note that Melissa McCarthy has not come to an official agreement with Disney as of this writing. However, it looks like it's nearly a done deal for what will surely be one of the most anticipated remakes the studio has put out thus far. The Little Mermaid is one of Disney's biggest properties, and along with The Lion King and Aladdin, it's one of the most beloved by fans. Disney went big this year and released Dumbo and Aladdin in theaters and has The Lion King opening later this month.

Lizzo has two huge records under her belt at the moment and is currently touring behind her latest album, Cuz I Love You. While the 31-year old popstar only has a few acting credits out in the wild, she has more on the way. In addition to her voice work in UglyDolls, she will next be seen on the big screen in Hustlers, which is now in post-production. There is no production start or release date set for The Little Mermaid remake, but that news should be dropping soon. While we wait for more news, you can check out Lizzo's Twitter audition below.
