Anthony Mackie will be joined by Liv Tyler in the upcoming superhero movie Captain America: New World Order. The film marks the first in the Captain America movie series to be headlined by Mackie following Chris Evans ending his run as Steve Rogers with Avengers: Endgame. The Disney+ series established Mackie's Sam Wilson as the new Captain America, carrying on the shield in Steve's honor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the foreseeable future. Julius Onah directs the fourth Captain America movie using a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson.

Now, per THR, it's been revealed that Tyler has boarded the cast of Captain America 4 as well. She'll be reprising the role from 2008's The Incredible Hulk as Betty Ross, the daughter General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. The late William Hurt played General Ross in the previous film, and it's been previously reported that Harrison Ford is taking over the role for Captain America: New World Order. Oddly enough, Tim Blake Nelson has also been confirmed to return as The Leader, adding yet another Incredible Hulk character to the cast. Others set to appear in the show include The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Carl Lumbly and Danny Ramirez reprising their respective roles as Isaiah Bradley and Joaquin Torres, while Shira Haas will debut as a new character.

Tyler has not appeared in the MCU since playing Betty in The Incredible Hulk, though it should be noted she lent her voice to the character for the video game adaptation that was also released in 2008. In more recent years, she's been spending a lot of time on the small screen with main roles in TV shows like The Leftovers, Harlots, and 9-1-1: Lone Star. Back in 2010, Tyler followed up her Hulk role with an appearance in James Gunn's superhero satire movie Super. She'd go on to appear in other films like Jamie Marks Is Dead, Wildling, and Ad Astra.

Having Anthony Mackie leading the cast as the new Captain America is a big step forward for the MCU, but bringing back so many classic characters from the earlier years of the MCU also keeps the sequel tied to its roots. Of course, it remains to be seen just how much these characters will play into the story of Captain America: New World Order, or if Mark Ruffalo's Hulk will be coming into the picture. The Incredible Hulk notably featured Edward Norton in the role of Bruce Banner before the role was later recast with Ruffalo for the Avengers movies.

Captain America: New World Order will be released in movie theaters on May 3, 2024.
