In the last year we have seen Hayley Atwell play a new iteration of Peggy Carter in the MCU, in the form of What If…? and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessCaptain Carter. According to new rumors, that may not be the last time we see the alternative version of Captain America appearing on screen with rumors of a new live-action series featuring the character being developed by Marvel Studios. As the MCU delves deeper into to the multiverse, this could be one of any number of projects to be based on characters and events from outside the main MCU timeline.

Ever since making her first appearance in the What If…? animated series in 2021, the multiversal Captain Carter has become a favorite among fans and there have already been rumors of more being done with the character in future. We now know that her first live-action role has come as part of the Illuminati of Earth-838 in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and while she was easily dispatched by Scarlet Witch in the movie, there could still be plenty of stories to tell about Captain Carter, as that is the real benefit of the multiverse.

The rumor of a new series being discussed comes from The DisInsider Show, and while the guys didn’t have any specific details about writers or directors being considered for the show, the popularity of the character has grown enough to warrant her own spin off show on Disney+ set somewhere in the multiverse. Of course, star Hayley Atwell has already headed up her own series, having played Agent Carter for two seasons on ABC. While this is very much a rumor at this stage, the idea of a Captain Carter series is one that many fans would certainly be on board with.

While Captain Carter’s short appearance in Multiverse of Madness has certainly whetted the appetite for more from Hayley Atwell’s hero in a live-action scenario of her own, there is a strong possibility that she will be seen first in the second season of the animated show What If…? The new season currently doesn’t have a premiere date, but it could be some time later this year considering Kevin Feige previously said that they wanted to try and make the series an annual event.

In the first season of What If…?, what began as seemingly stand-alone episodes took a Marvel twist and became interlinked in one big story that ended with Captain Carter and other multiverse variants becoming the Guardians of the Multiverse. Whether this group will continue on into the second season is currently not known, but there is a good chance that it will be connected in some way, just like everything Marvel Studios do.

In the meantime, Hayley Atwell’s live-action debut as Captain Carter can be seen in cinemas, where Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is snapping at the heels of The Batman and is set to become the highest grossing movie of the year by the end of this week.
