The new Netflix series Lockwood & Co. is turning out to be a hit. Immediately upon the show's debut on the streaming platform, it has garnered a perfect score at Rotten Tomatoes, earning an approval rating of 100% on the Tomatometer. It's not just the critics who are loving the series, as Lockwood & Co. is also sitting at 98% with its audience score, still practically universal with its praise. For any TV series to garner these kinds of universally-praised reviews upon its arrival is impressive, and chances are it will only increase the hype for the show, bringing more viewers in to check out thrilling series.

"There’s an awareness from the very first scene of this eight-episode series that it’s a slight cut above its contemporaries," Jonathon Wilson of Ready Steady Cut says in his review.

"Lockwood is an appealing blend of noir-tinged detective tale, horror, and lowkey teen drama with just the right amount of witty banter," adds AV Club's Jenna Scherer.

Particularly impressed with one of its lead stars, Ruby Stokes, Ed Power of the Daily Telegraph writes, "Driven in particular by Stokes’s gutsy performance, it has a zinging underdog charm."

Praising how the creative team put a lot of thought into the show, Empire's Boyd Hilton notes, "None of this impressive world-building, character development and storytelling would work, though, if it wasn’t for the consistently intelligent, wryly funny dialogue."

And our own Matthew Mahler also described the series as a satisfying watch. While Mahler suggests younger viewers might enjoy Lockwood & Co. most of all, he also says that "young at heart adults" will also enjoy the show, praising how it "looks and sounds great" with some "exicting world-building" in his official review.

Lockwood & Co. is based on the book series of the same name by Jonathan Stroud. The series, set in London, follows three teenage ghost-hunters who make up the titular company as they get to the heart of a major mystery. The series stars Ruby Stokes, Cameron Chapman, Ali Hadji-Heshmati, Michael Clarke, Ivanno Jeremiah, Luke Treadaway, and Morven Christie. Executive producer Joe Cornish also served as writer and director for both the season premiere and the finale.

"I think we all agreed that it needed to be real," Cornish said of the creative approach taken to the show in an interview with MovieWeb. "That even when it was funny, it had to be the kind of funny that comes when you're scared. And the stakes have to be high. At the end of the day, we had these wonderful books to work from, and Jonathan is so good at evoking mood and detail, and creating these characters, that really, the book was our Bible."

You can stream the first season of Lockwood & Co. on Netflix. If enough people tune in, chances are the show will get a second season. To get a sneak peek at the series, you can view the official trailer below.
