Loki has played a very memorable role throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s the God of Mischief and has made it abundantly clear on multiple occasions that he’s looking out for #1: himself. This comes at the cost of practically anyone or anything in his way, as Lokis are known for their selfish behavior. However, the television show Loki has proven that, despite this trait, he still has additional layers to his personality, which we’re now getting the chance to explore with him in the lead role for the first time.

Updated August 24, 2023: In anticipation of Loki season two, this article has been updated with additional information and even more things we want to see in the second season.

Loki certainly got up to a lot of trouble in Season 1. With the assistance of Mobius and Sylvie, the entire Time Variance Authority (TVA) was destroyed, and it opened up multiple universes overlapping with one another for the first time in the MCU. However, those alternate timelines are yet to be explored in the show. Who (or what) will now be able to cross over into Loki’s world, or vice versa? With season 2 of Loki confirmed and scheduled to release in October, here’s what we’d like to see happen during the next chapter of the popular Disney+ show.

The Original Cast Returning

Keeping the main actors on a show is typically needed for good story continuity. However, with multiple timelines now going on in Loki, who’s to say another actor couldn’t just come in and take over as the alternate version of an established character from Season 1? Thankfully the series is bringing back Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie, Owen Wilson's Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw's Ravonna Renslayer, and Wunmi Mosaku's Hunter B-15. The biggest addition to this cast is Ke Huy Quan. The Oscar winner will be joining as OB, a TVA archivist tasked with helping Mobius with Loki's time-slipping issue.

A Deeper Look Into The Multiverse

With the TVA gone, what’s going to happen next? The possibilities are literally endless. While Spider-Man: No Way Home has already shown us a glimpse of the multiverse and season 1 of Loki explored what a world of multiple Lokis might look like, there’s no telling which direction things may go next. Both the timelines and storylines are wide open.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania both continued the multiverse storyline in different ways and now it's Loki's turn. It’s also been rumored that characters from Loki will appear in the upcoming Deadpool 3. Hopefully, a bigger multiverse allow for more experimentation, a look into far our realities with vastly different-looking Marvel universes.

Loki to Reunite with the Version of Mobius Who Remembers Him

At the end of season 1, Loki is sent back to the former TVA headquarters. He finds Mobius. However, Mobius doesn’t know who Loki is. Does this mean Loki is already in an alternate universe or that Loki’s actions erased Mobius’ memory of him? Season 2 will hopefully explain this early on. The relationship between Mobius and Loki was a big draw in season 1, and it was great to see them interacting onscreen together. They had even formed a friendship of sorts.

We hope season 2 will reunite Loki with the Mobius he knew from season 1. The trailer for season 2 shows Loki and Mobius back together again. This means either Mobius got his memories back, Loki found the original Mobius, or this Loki is working with a variant version of the character who does not have their prior history.

The Continuation of Sylvie and Loki’s Relationship

There was an interesting dynamic between these two characters. Variants who are also drastically different and fell in love. However, Lokis are not to be trusted. If they see each other again, will they fight one another or continue working together? Perhaps some of both? Where does Sylvie’s allegiance lie now that she brought down the TVA?

Her main goal has been accomplished, but now a whole new problem with the collapsing multiverse arises. What does she do next? How does she end up working at a McDonald's? Only time will tell.

Different Time Periods

With Loki being a time travel show, it's one of the few times that the MCU can explore different time periods. We got a taste of this in season 1 with Loki and Mobius visiting Pompeii and the future year 2050, but outside of that there wasn't much. Season 2 is the perfect time to expand upon the time travel and show whole new eras.

From Quantumania's post-credit scene and the season 2 trailer, it's already known that Loki and Mobius will be traveling to the early 1900s to meet Victor Timely. Hopefully, this season will continue to take the series to new heights and times, both unexplored and explored in the MCU. Loki could revisit key moments in the MCU from a different perspective, similar to how Avengers: Endgame revisited multiple past movies.

More Loki Variants

One of the best parts of Loki's first season was the exploration of what it means for a Loki to be a Loki. This was done through the character of Sylvie, along with a whole host of other pruned Lokis in The Void. With a second season, you always want to go bigger, and what better way to reinforce these themes than with more Loki variants?

The multiverse is coming undone this season, meaning it is easier than ever to introduce new variants as timelines cross and fall apart. One notable variant is Kid Loki, who was last seen in season 1 still in the Void. Kid Loki is notably part of the Young Avengers, a team of young superheroes that the MCU has been hinting at across various different film and television series.

Ravonna Renslayer with a Bigger Role

In the comics, Ravonna Renslayer plays a huge role in Kang the Conqueror's story. Through all of his conquering, Kang found himself infatuated with Renslayer and wanted to marry her. In some instances, she joins him and fights by his side, and in others, she seeks revenge on him for killing her father. Eventually, going by names such as The Terminatrix and Revelation, Renslayer becomes a force of nature for both good and evil.

With Avengers: The Kang Dynasty set to arrive soon, it only makes sense for Renslayer to play a bigger part in the Multiverse Saga. She was last seen going to look for answers about the TVA, guided by Miss Minutes, who appears to be the right-hand woman of Kang. The two may finally encounter each other and set the stage for the upcoming Avengers film. Loki season 2 has an opportunity to set her up as a major player in the MCU and give her character the spotlight she deserves.

Mobius Finally Gets His Jet Sk

If there's one thing about Mobius, it's that he loves jet skis. The one thing in history that Mobius has cared for and doesn't think is dumb is the jet ski. He calls it a beautiful union of form and function that brought together the jet ski. He even has a magazine full of them at his desk. Perhaps the most important thing for Loki season 2 to deliver on is to let Mobius ride the jet ski of his dreams finally. Season 1 teased the idea that what Mobius' life looked like before the TVA involved him riding jet skis, so there's a chance we can see that play out in season 2.

The Creation of the TVA

Towards the end of season 1, it was revealed that He Who Remains, a variant of Kang, had actually created the TVA from the start. This reveals recontextualized everything we thought we knew about the TVA and revealed its true intentions were to stop any other Kang variants from being created. With Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania's post-credit scene showing the Kang variant Victor Timely, it's a very real possibility that season 2 is going to explore how the TVA came to be.

With such a powerful and mysterious organization controlling time itself, there are so many questions related to its origin that are to be answered. Season 2 has the opportunity to expand on that and show how it all came to be. It also could dig deep into how this new version of the TVA formed, as the season 1 finale hinted at a new version of Kang being in charge.

A Cameo From Loki’s Brother Thor (or maybe other Avengers)

Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki in Marvel Studios' Thor 2011
Paramount Pictures

With Marvel’s Phase 5 halfway through, will we see Thor or other Avengers appear in Season 2? While it may feel like a bit of a stretch, this could be accomplished through the use of the Multiverse or even in Loki flashbacks. Chris Hemsworth made a very minor vocal cameo as Throg, the frog of thunder, in episode 5 of season 1, so it isn't completely unrealistic. With virtually nothing off the table at the moment, it would certainly give fans something exciting to talk about, and would be great to see Thor and Loki reunited.

A cameo could be used much like end-credit scenes are used in Marvel films: to set up future storylines in upcoming Marvel projects. This could further connect where audiences last saw Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder into the Multiverse Saga plot that is unfolding, and so far, he is removed. Only time will tell how season 2 plays out. However, if it’s anything like season 1, then fans will not be disappointed.
