FilmDistrict has slated the sci-fi thriller Looper for release on September 28, 2012. As of now, Looper is the only movie set to open on that date.
Looper stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt who works for the mafia in a society where time travel is prevalent. He, along with other enforcers known as Loopers, kill those who were sent from the future. However, when he notices his future self, played by Bruce Willis, he lets him go, setting off an unusual chain of events. Rian Johnson directed Looper from his own original screenplay.
FilmDistrict has also set an April 13, 2012 release date for Lockout, pushing it up a few months from its February 24, 2012 slot. Lockout will go up against Relativity Media's Movie 43 on April 13, 2012. Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace, and Peter Stormare star in Lockout. FilmDistrict's soccer comedy Playing the Field, which stars Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel, will open on March 9, 2012.
In more immediate release date news, Sony Pictures has moved Roland Emmerich's Anonymous from September 30 to October 28. Other movies slated for October 28 include In Time, starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried, The Rum Diary, starring Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and Safe, starring Jason Statham.
