Lionsgate could have large problem with the Lord of War DVD which came out on January 17th, 2006.

We initially reported that the film, which was released theatrically at the 2.40:1 aspect ratio, was apparently changed to 1.78:1 for it's DVD release. According to The Digital Bits, even though "the production company" made the call to have this change implemented, it actually was a mistake.

According to the site, new DVDs of Lord of War are appearing in DVD stores "marked with a sticker on the back of case (over the old aspect ratio information) saying that the film is now presented in the correct 2.40:1 ratio."

Apparently, if you purchased the "cropped" 1.78:1 version of the film, you actually bought a disc that was later "quietly" rereleased in the proper 2.40:1 format.
