Netflix has revealed the first footage from Volume 3 of its warped science fiction-slash-horror-slash-every genre you can imagine anthology series, Love, Death & Robots. Released via the official Netflix YouTube channel, the exciting glimpse at Love, Death & Robots Volume 3 begins with footage from the streaming giant’s prestigious shows The Crown and The Queen’s Gambit before jarring and glitching and introducing us to some foul-mouthed robots.

The trailer further reveals that Love, Death & Robots Volume 3 will be “Extreming soon,” and based on the previous 2 series and the newly released footage, extreme is exactly what Love, Death & Robots is all about. Other than its aspirations to be extreme, not much else has yet been revealed regarding the stories that will comprise Love, Death & Robots Volume 3. But, thanks to the trailer, the series’ return will clearly be just as haunting, just as unique, just as funny, and just as mind-boggling as ever before.

Produced by Deadpool director Tim Miller alongside Joshua Donen, Jennifer Miller, and Se7en and Mindhunter director David Fincher, Love, Death & Robots spans across all manner of different genres, as the anthology series brings together elements from science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy and crafting a beautifully deformed genre beast all its own, with each short being given a unique animation style from traditional 2D to photo-real 3D CGI

Love, Death & Robots Season 3 will reportedly consist of 8 episodes. While the show has consisted of standalone stories up to this point, Love, Death & Robots Volume 3 will feature a sequel to the Volume 1 episode “Three Robots, which follows the trio of titular androids wandering a post-apocalyptic Earth long after the fall of humanity. Stumbling across some genetically engineered cats, the sequel episode will clearly pick up right after the initial story, with the trailer for Volume 3 showing the robots among their new feline pals.

Love, Death & Robots Volume 3 Will Be Helmed by an Assortment of Filmmakers and Animators

Though the talent behind Love, Death & Robots Volume 3 is also largely being kept a secret, the series’ return will no doubt will helmed once again by a vast array of directors and animators, each telling a story that encapsulates either love, death, or robots, or maybe even a combination of all three.

The adult animated anthology series premiered back in 2019 and was born due to Tim Miller and David Fincher attempting to craft a reboot of the 1981 animated science fiction film Heavy Metal. Thus, Love, Death & Robots is a re-imagining of Fincher and Miller's long in-development reboot. Love, Death & Robots received largely positive reviews from critics, holding a hugely impressive approval rating of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. The first season went on to win several Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Short Form Animated Program, providing audiences with a distinctive, creative sci-fi/horror endeavor, with many moments that will remain burned into audience’s dreams and nightmares forever.

Love, Death & Robots Volume 3 will land on Netflix on May 20, 2022.
