Though he got his start as a horror director, Sam Raimi refuses to be tied down to a genre, entering talks for the dramatic thriller Love May Fail as his next project.

Love May Fail is a big departure from the fantasy world of Oz: The Great and Powerful and the superhero adventures of Spider-Man. Based on Silver Linings Playbook author Matthew Quick's novel of the same name, the story follows the plight of a woman who is just starting to recover from the dissolution of her marriage. She leaves her cheating husband behind, returning to her hometown. There, she becomes determined to clear the name of her favorite English teacher, whose career is over due to a classroom scandal.

Mike White has adapted the novel into a screenplay, which will be produced by Matthew Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man franchise).

Elizabeth Cantillon (Goosebumps) will executive produce.

Love May Fail will reunite Sam Raimi with Matthew Tolmach and Sony. The trio collaborated on the original Spider-Man trilogy. The Love May Fail novel will not be published until June 2015.
