Matador star Yvette Monreal has signed on for the female lead in Universal Pictures' Untitled Lowrider Project. The movie already has Demián Bichir, Theo Rossi and Gabriel Chavarria attached to star. The story centers on a teenager (Gabriel Chavarria) who is caught between his traditional father (Demián Bichir) and his estranged, criminal brother Ghost (Theo Rossi), both of whom are competing in the annual lowrider "Supershow."

Yvette Monreal will play the love interest of Gabriel Chavarria's character, described as "a smart, talented maverick of a girl who is a fellow tagger but who also has a scholarship to Columbia University in New York." The project first surfaced back in 2010, and is set in the East Los Angeles world of lowrider cars and street tagging. No production schedule was given at this time.

Ricardo de Montreuil (Mancora) is directing from a screenplay by Cheo Hodari Coker (Notorious) and Elgin James (Little Birds). Blumhouse Productions and Imagine Entertainment are producing for Universal. Aside from playing Senna Galan on El Rey's short-lived series Matador, Yvette Monreal also recently had an arc on MTV's Awkward.
