French filmmaker Luc Besson is taking the animation genre to heart. According to Variety, Besson's EuroCorp production house will make the 3-D animated film La Mecanique du coeur (The Mechanics of the Heart).
The project will be based on the popular novel by Mathias Malzieu, who will write and co-direct the film with Stephane Berla. The novel has even influenced music as well, with the group Dionysos releasing an album inspired by the novel; Berla directed the group's music videos for that album.
The film will be set in 1874, and centers on a young man whose heart was replaced at birth with a clock. He is told to avoid any sort of emotion - especially love - but he soon learns how difficult it is to tame the heart.
No production date has been announced for the film.
